nside my car, the Toyota Prius, I’ve found a surprising amount of room (indeed, Toyota actually increased the size of their 2nd generation Prius while increasing fuel economy—guess I got my cake and I’m eating it, too). How does it drive? Like, well, a car. It’s not a rocket ship, but its acceleration from when the light turns green is about the same as the conventional Accord, Civic, Taurus, and Corolla, so you’re not losing anything there. Good handling, and the nifty in-cabin computer can even help you monitor your fuel economy while you drive (eyes on the road, though, safety first). I get about 45 mpg in my Prius. Of course, on the highways and byways of Los Angeles, it depends on the driving conditions. Stopping and going at rush hour, I get about 43 mpg.
